Research

When it comes to research, the School of Arts & Sciences encourages students to participate in faculty-led research projects early and often. A common misperception is that those guidelines only apply to students studying the sciences—that it’s somehow harder for students studying the humanities, arts and social sciences to get involved in undergraduate research because their learning doesn’t happen in a laboratory. The School of Arts & Sciences provides resources for all students, regardless of discipline to participate in student research, receive funding and present their work professionally

Students who participate in undergraduate research are more likely to establish relationships with faculty members, remain engaged in their chosen subject area and do well in graduate school. In 2007, the School of Arts & Sciences supported 156 students who spent their summers researching on campus, and plans are already underway to increase that number in 2008.
