Arts & Sciences Research Fellowships and Travel Support
The School of Arts & Sciences supports undergraduate research across the entire liberal arts spectrum. While funding for research in the sciences often is available through a variety of sources, other fields are more limited. That’s why the School of Arts & Sciences offers an aggressive number of school-wide summer fellowships and research grants to support research projects for students interested in botany, Buddhism and everything in between. In addition, the School of Arts & Sciences provides travel grants to fund research presentations at national and regional conferences.

Summer research fellowships through the School of Arts & Sciences provide housing on campus and a stipend for living expenses so that students can remain at the University of Richmond over the summer and conduct research. This summer, research projects ranged from “Computation Integrity in Distributed Volunteer Computing Platforms” to “The Influence of Japanese Philosophy and Culture on Karatsu and shoki-Imari Potteries of the Edo Period.” Applications are typically due in mid-February for the following summer.
Summer fellowships allow students to spend 8, 9, or 10 weeks on a single research project. Students work full time on the project during the research period and are not permitted to hold other jobs or take classes. Stipends are $400 per week, with an additional $50 per week if the student lives on campus. For more in-depth information about requirements and expectations, consult the summer fellowship guidelines.
