Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
Students and faculty engaging in research with animals at the University of Richmond must conduct research in compliance with ethical standards established by the federal government. The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) ensures compliance with these standards by reviewing all research involving animals before, during, and after it is conducted.
The IACUC chair is Dr. Kathy Hoke, Associate Dean of Arts & Sciences.
Application to conduct animal research
In addition to any applications you may have made for funding, you must also complete the Animal Care and Use Form.
As you complete your application, you may wish to consider additional information provided by the federal Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, AAALAC, IACUC.org, and the National Institutes of Health.
Renewal of previously approved research
If your research project has previously received approval from IACUC, you must submit either the annual review form or, if you are in the third year of research, the third-year review form.
Acquisition and disposal
When you must acquire or dispose of animals, complete an acquisition and disposal form and submit a copy to IACUC. In addition, you must adhere to the guidelines on euthanasia (provided by the University of Iowa) as appropriate.
IACUC Meeting Dates
IACUC meets once per month. All applications and renewals must be received by the IACUC chair one week prior to the appropriate meeting. Proposals not submitted by the deadline date will not be reviewed. The original and 10 copies are required.
