Weinstein Fellows

To promote interdisciplinary collaboration in the social sciences, the School of Arts & Sciences sponsors a unique program called the Weinstein Fellows program. Thanks to the generous support of the Weinstein family, the program offers interdisciplinary teams of faculty and students a $25,000 grant to support an expansive research project.

This year’s project, “Critical Confederacy Studies,” brought together professors and students in the Department of Political Science and the Department of Rhetoric and Communication Studies to study how “place” influences culture, identity and communication with respect to the study of the Confederacy and slavery.

To put forth a project worthy of the Weinstein Fellowship, at least one faculty member must be housed in Weinstein Hall, students must conduct faculty-guided research over the summer and present a formal paper or presentation, and the team must present a speakers’ series based on their work. Ultimately, the team of faculty must use their findings to build a brand new course offered campus-wide the following spring semester. Applications are typically due in late November of each year.
