Assistant Professor of Anthropology
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Richmond invites applications for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor in cultural anthropology to begin in August 2013. We are seeking a candidate whose primary focus is the Middle East and/or North Africa with an emphasis on Islam. Fluency in a major Middle Eastern language is strongly preferred.
Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching at all undergraduate levels, including introductory courses in cultural anthropology, as well as courses in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate will teach courses for anthropology majors, as well as courses in the interdisciplinary International Studies program, which has a Middle East concentration. In addition to demonstrable teaching skills, we seek candidates with a strong research agenda, which could actively involve undergraduate majors. A Ph.D. is required. ABDs will be considered, but must have completed the Ph.D. degree by the start date. For more information on the department, see the department's website.
