Assistant Professor of Classical Studies

The Department of Classical Studies at the University of Richmond seeks applications for a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in fall 2010. The position is for a specialist in classical literature, who is interested in contributing to a thorough revision of our Latin curriculum, including designing new upper-level seminars in Latin literature. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching Greek, Latin and Classical Civilization at all undergraduate levels, and have a strong research program. Research projects that could potentially involve undergraduate majors are of particular interest.

Applicants will be asked to supply electronically a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement (including teaching philosophy and teaching experience), a statement describing the applicant's research agenda for the next six years, and a writing sample. Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation, including at least one that addresses teaching effectiveness and potential, to be sent directly by the referee either via e-mail or regular mail to Dean Simpson, Department of Classical Studies, North Court Room 209, University of Richmond, VA 23173.
